TIE Renewal (Prórroga de Estudios)

1. Email biwd@barcelonactiva.cat asking for an appointment. 2. Open the auto-reply from Bústia BIWD and click the 'here' link. 3. Fill out the BIW service request form and submit it. 4. Wait for the confirmation email from emprenedoria@barcelonactiva.cat with your Information Session date. 5. Attend the Information Session at Glòries with your laptop and passport.

This is the longest step. Each document below has its own gotchas — open the document chips to see what makes each one acceptable vs. rejected. You'll submit everything as PDFs through Mercurio, but always make a physical printed copy too in case you're asked to attend in person or need to defend the file later.

AutoFirma is a small desktop app maintained by the Ministry for Digital Transformation. When you finish your Mercurio application, the browser hands the submission to AutoFirma, which uses your installed FNMT certificate to sign it. No AutoFirma → no signature → no submission.

Mercurio is the Ministry of Inclusion's online portal for foreign-affairs procedures. Sessions time out fast and uploads have size limits, so have every PDF ready in one folder on your desktop before you start.

Once the file is 'en trámite', the Oficina de Extranjería de Barcelona reviews your submission, can request additional documents, and finally issues a resolution: 'concedida' (approved), 'denegada' (denied), or a request for more information ('subsanación'). You receive a notification at the email registered with Mercurio. There is no SMS — only email + the Mercurio dashboard. The approved 'concesión' PDF you download is the document the police office will demand at your huellas appointment.

The cita previa for huellas is booked at icpplus, the cita system for foreign-affairs procedures. You can book yourself with your digital certificate, or ask a senior student or your university's international office to book on your behalf — but if they do, you'll need to give them your laptop (with the FNMT certificate installed) and your certificate password.

Your approval letter ('Esta comunicación') lists the documents required to issue the new TIE. The standard package is shown below — confirm against the last page of your specific letter, because the office can add or drop items depending on your case. Bring everything in physical/original form; copies are not enough where the letter says 'original'.

Arrive 15 minutes early to the office printed on your cita confirmation. At the entrance, security checks your cita confirmation and lets you in. You'll wait for your turn at a numbered counter; when called, hand the officer the complete folder from step 8 in the listed order. They review the documents, take your fingerprints (both hands), photograph you if the carnet photo is unusable, and stamp/sign the resguardo. That resguardo is what you bring back later to pick up the card.

The resguardo tells you exactly where and when you can collect the card — usually the same Comisaría de Policía Nacional where you did huellas, sometime after the date printed on the receipt. Some offices accept walk-ins within the window; others require a separate cita previa for 'Policía-Recogida de tarjeta'. Read your resguardo and follow what it says.
