Barcelona Activa's Barcelona International Welcome (BIW) desk runs free group Information Sessions (typically in English) where a technician walks you through installing the FNMT digital certificate on your own laptop — the FNMT request, AEAT identity verification, and the final on-laptop install, end to end.

By appointment only — session dates are assigned after you submit the BIW request form

DO NOT email biwd@barcelonactiva.cat — it's an unattended mailbox that only auto-replies with a redirect to the BIW request form. Use the form (appointmentUrl above). Your confirmation with the session date/time comes from emprenedoria@barcelonactiva.cat. Bring your own laptop fully charged, your passport (or TIE), and the email you want tied to the certificate. Doors close 15 minutes after the session starts.

TIE fingerprinting (toma de huellas), TIE card pickup, and regreso authorization. One of the main offices for student TIE appointments in Barcelona.

When booking the cita previa, select 'Barcelona' as province and look for 'Policía-Toma de huellas (Expedición de tarjeta) y Renovación de Tarjeta de Larga Duración'. Slots are released sporadically — new batches typically appear on Thursdays around 4:00 PM Madrid time.

AutoFirma — Official download (Ministerio para la Transformación Digital)

Download and install the AutoFirma desktop app. AutoFirma is the only client Mercurio accepts for signing the Modelo EX-00 renewal submission with your FNMT digital certificate.

Pick the installer that matches your OS (Windows / macOS / Linux). Install on the same laptop where your FNMT digital certificate is loaded. Restart your browser afterwards so it can discover the AutoFirma protocol handler. On macOS, you may need to right-click the installer and choose 'Open' the first time (Gatekeeper).

Participating Banks (CaixaBank, BBVA, Santander, etc.)

Any branch of a participating bank

Pay the Modelo 790-012 TIE fee. You bring the printed form, the bank takes the payment and stamps the form. Keep the stamped copy — you need it at your appointment.

Counter hours: 9:00–11:59 only. Most branches only accept this at the morning counter. Book a branch-visit appointment in the bank's app first if you can — some branches turn you away without one, others won't mind. Tip: many bank ATMs also accept 790-012 — scan the barcode on the form and pay with a card. No queue, no appointment. KEEP THE ATM RECEIPT — that's your only proof of payment.

Mercurio — Sede Electrónica de la Administración General del Estado

Online portal where you actually file the TIE renewal. You sign in with your FNMT digital certificate, fill in the form, upload every supporting PDF, sign the submission with AutoFirma, and download the justificante (receipt) confirming the file is in the queue.

Use Firefox or Chrome — Safari has known issues with the AutoFirma protocol handler. Each upload must be a PDF under ~5 MB. The session times out after ~10 minutes of inactivity, so have every PDF ready in one folder before signing in. DO NOT close the tab until you've downloaded the justificante PDF.

In-person identity verification for the FNMT digital certificate. After requesting your certificate online and receiving the pre-confirmation code, you come here with your passport to confirm your identity.

When booking, choose 'Acreditación certificado FNMT' or similar. Bring your passport (or TIE) and the pre-confirmation code from the FNMT website.
